I think there is not one word of analysis about Day Tripper by the Beatles that cannot be found somewhere, thus I won’t add to speculation about the song.
What I wanted to know was exactly how fast the song was, preferably with a tempo map to help me through it. I found no such thing. I found this:

So I did the work myself. As Ray Charles once said, if a chart cannot speak for itself it is no chart at all – and he was blind, so those of us who can *read* music and maps ought to thank [who-ever] for the gift of eyesight. Of course I make my bpm scans such that an ordinary non-musician can follow then as easily as a musician.

* note – there is a earlier analysis from 2001 of Day Tripper published by me sometime in 2008 labeling the song as 138.0 beats per minute, 0.7% faster than the given 137.6 beats per minute. This is a song I have in many master forms – the one used here is from the definitive digital download of the album Beatles Number 1 purchased from iTunes® and played on a MacBook® with iTunes® software, Joesoft.com®’s HEAR equalizer with Dr. Dre® and Sony® headphones. The version measured in 2008 was initially measured in 2001 probably from a CD that was mastered faster than this. No matter! This is why I give out song 1% from their recorded speeds as loopable or similar speeds – even people with “perfect tempo” could never hear the difference between 137.6 and 138.0.
