Apparently not satisfied with his fame, Berry Gordy of MOTOWN announced at the Michael Jackson Staples Center Death Ceremony: “We competed on everything…I was just whistling these songs that *I had* made up. We called in these unknowns. What do you have? The only time an artistic group, the Jackson 5, had began its career with four #1 hit songs.”
Berry takes credit for the Jackson Five’s greatest song. Wow, no one noticed this arrogance.
Then again, he did call Michael, “The greatest entertainer who ever lived.” As hyperbolic and sarcastic though it may read, if you watch Berry in the video he does seem sincere about that part.
Earvin “Magic ” Johnson and Kobe Bryant are humble men by comparison, as seen in the video of their part in the classy tribute. THEY call him a genius – Gordy calls HIMSELF a genius. Go figure. The Magic commentary about the Kentucky Fried Chicken is truly funny.
The song will live on for as long as pop music is popular, which will be until WWIII ends.
