The Y & R was teh first show to feature a Jewish American character: Mr. George Kaplan, who took on the identity of Brad Carlton. The young Don Diamont, who played Carlton was given a job as the Newman pool-boy and was once locked in a sex-cage for 3 days in order that a woman named Sheila [had her way] with him. Ten years later, after mastering the garden, he of course was hired by the Patriarch of the show, Eric Braeden who plays VICTOR NEWMAN.
The matriarch of the show is featured in this post: KATHERINE CHANCELLOR, played by award winning actress for best in a daytime drame, Ms. jeannie Cooper, winner at age 79, loses her memory temporarily after a car accident. She forgets that she is rich and of status, and falls in love with a man anyone could fall in love with – aMR PATRICK MURPHY, who, the day after he was married to a multi-billionaire, at age 81 went to *work* at his bait and tackle store. With guys that old keeping their jobs, no wonder I cannot fins a good bait and tackle job – the economic restructuring of the U.S. in action: people working to much older ages with digitized equipment.
