"On Saturday Afternoons In 1963" by Rickie Lee Jones -
"The most as you'll ever goIs back where you used to knowIf grown-ups could laugh this slowWhere as you watch the hour snowYears may go by
So hold on to your special friendHere, you'll need something to keep her in :"Now you stay inside this foolish grin ... "Though any day your secrets endThen againYears may go by
You saved your own special friend'Cuz here you need something to hide her inAnd you stay inside that foolish grinWhen everyday now secrets endOh and then againYears may go by"
The Bold And The Beautiful, the most popular television drama in the world, the show with the most live feeds internationally, featured the Forrester-Logan wedding on May 9. Susan Flannery’s performance was truly great. John McCook, Ron Moss and Jack Wagner were outstanding. In his role as head of the Logan’s, Patrick Dempsey, once am actor in Dallas, put in a once-in-a-lifetime performance. I can only sum it up by saying it most reminded me of what the recording On Saturday Afternoons In 1963 by Rikki Lee Jones in 1963 was saying. Treasure even your lonely moments amongst family, because they too will pass away. The Sopranos has nothing on this theme any more than the Godfather or Mystic River.
The speed at which this song was recorded is associated with loneliness in emotional expression. In his role, Dempsey puts on his best face after his oldest son kills himself after shooting his sister accidentally in order that he may donate his heart. “Don’t Cry For Stormy Logan” though. He kill Stephanie because his deserted dad Patrick Dempsey had left him to raise the three Logan girls (there must be more!) missed one of his water polo matches – the finals. And Stormy was the goalie. Sure it is camp drama, but when you cannot curse or use real manner on daytime television, one uses camp – and it gives you a code. For example, if I say that Felicia looked like Tom Cruise on steroids, some would get it, others will get it later. That’s code! One of the reasons that I am such a fan of the Bold and the Beautiful is that they will show that what goes around comes around. Because they have 30 minutes a day compared to most drama’s 60 minutes, the B and the B moves at a swift pace and the actors are often funny in is wit and sarcasm. The sexuality does not become gauche or graphic. Without a dvr or tivo, though, you may get annoyed. The show is sort of unwatchable due the the blaring horrific noise during the advertising breaks. Ads are intended to be annoying and loud – an axiom in the ad world. Anyway, Rikki rocks on. While many songs from 5 years ago sound dated, this song sounds like it came out today.
The screenshot above from sets the tone for the show – Pat is every bit the Tony Soprano of the Logan family.
