This is a speed graph using 10 beat contiguous averages which were measured, coordinated and synthesized to create performance line and trend-line for Elton John’s Pinky, from the album Caribou, which can be downloaded on iTunes as a 99 cent single. There are only a few speed ranges—meanemotions, as I have been calling them—which are named because of and honoring individuals—for example, the speed of grace, 70-76 beats per minute, I call James Taylor Speed— because of the tremendous success James has had in that range. As for the “ceremonial” Meanspeed, 63-69, "Elton John Speed," Elton John has an almost unreal dominance. Harmony, Candle In The Wind, Your Song, Take me To The Pilot—and the list keeps rolling, as Casey Kasim used to say when I followed Elton on American Top 40 hosted by the great late Lebanese born Kasim— until Ameican Idol’s emergence, Kasim’s show was the last center of music. Anyway, Elton has his share of underrated songs—to everyone else! He has not put out a CD yet just called: “Hey, This Is the stuff I love to jam to at home”—so who knows. For me, Pinky is here for two reasons: 1) To keep Santana’s live Oye Come Va Alive. It is approximately twice the speed of Pinky— and I have found that in making playlists that doubling speeds is a great way to keep songs fresh, keep them from getting Played out; 2) I always thought Pinky was an Underrated song by the team of Elton John, Bernie Taupin, and Elton’s band with Dee, Nigel, the late Davey— for all the famous songs, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Someone saved My Life Tonight, Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me— Pinky is the one I like best. So said, I do not think it was even released as a single —so much for my taste! The frequencies for Pinky are: Meanspeed=66.5 beats per minute Meanemotion=ceremonial Meanbeat=1.108 beats per second Meanspace=902milliseconds per beat Meanspace=3609 milliseconds per measur Meanphase=1.108 cycles per second Meanpitch=283.73 Hertz, 40 cents above C#4/Db4=277.183 Hertz, 60 cents below D4=293.665 Hertz. Ian Schneider New York, NY May 10.200 a rare use of lyrics, in part because when I was looking through the lyrics of the song, copyright circa 1973 John/Taupin used for educational purposes, someone who only TYPED the lyrics from the album jacket was demanding internet copyright legal standing. Please. PINKY--by Elton John and Bernie Taupin "I don't want to wake you But I'd like to tell you that I love you That the candlelight fell like a crescent Upon your feather pillow For there's more ways than one And the ways of the world are a blessing For when Pinky's dreaming She owes the world nothing And her silence keeps us guessing Pinky's as perfect as the Fourth of July Quilted and timeless, seldom denied The trial and the error of my master plan Now she rolls like the dice in a poor gambler's hands You don't want to tell me But somehow you've guessed that I know Oh when dawn came this morning You discovered a feeling that burned like a flame in your soul For there's toast and honey And there's breakfast in bed on a tray Oh it's ten below zero And we're about to abandon our plans for the day" lyrics by BERNIE TAUPIN, music by ELTON JOHN
